About Us
Founded in 1944, the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science develops philanthropic support for the Weizmann Institute in Israel, and advances its mission of science for the future of humanity.
Dr. Chaim Weizmann founded the institute on the belief that science is essential to shaping the future of humanity — and that it should be open and accessible to all. Today, Institute President Prof. Alon Chen continues this legacy, emphasizing the importance of scientific understanding in navigating the modern world. The Weizmann Institute engages the public through diverse initiatives — from festivals and workshops to mobile labs, public lectures, and interactive outdoor spaces. By opening its doors to the community on campus and online, the institute fosters curiosity and invites people of all ages to engage with the spirit of discovery.
When students can’t get to science, we bring it to them. The Davidson Institute of Science Education’s Science Mobile — a lab in a van — delivers hands-on activities across Israel. Outfitted with exhibits and teaching tools, it brings science to a wide range of locations — from schools and shopping malls to hospitals, shelters, and areas affected by conflict.
Established in 1998, the Clore Garden of Science is an open-air museum that uses interactive exhibits to explain the laws of nature. Designed for families, school groups, and visitors of all ages, the garden features displays on sustainability — including bamboo treehouses and hydroponic growing systems — and hosts programs blending art, science, and nature. The award-winning site offers weekend and holiday events and welcomes more than 80,000 visitors annually.
Hosted in the SELA Auditorium and supported by the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation, this program explores the intersection of science and the arts. Through music, film, theater, and visual performance, the series highlights the imagination and curiosity shared by both fields. Events are designed to engage audiences of all ages, offering high-quality, thought-provoking experiences that encourage new ways of seeing the world.
The Weizmann Memorial Lectures are a flagship public event series that invites audiences from across Israel to hear from world-renowned scientists as they present breakthrough ideas and discoveries. Designed to make science engaging and accessible, the first lecture in each annual series is open to the general public and explores major scientific developments in clear, compelling language.
Established in honor of Dr. Chaim Weizmann — visionary scientist and founder of the institute — the series reflects the institute’s commitment to sharing science beyond the lab. A second, more technical lecture is also held for scientists and scholars, offering deeper insight into the research for those in academic and professional communities.
Hosted by the Institute for Artificial Intelligence, this event showcases current research and real-world applications in AI. The public is invited to explore project demos, speak with researchers, and discover how AI is transforming science and society.
Held annually, this event celebrates women scientists and promotes gender equity in research. Short lectures by Weizmann researchers give the public insight into scientific work across diverse disciplines.
